Gratitudes during a long shift
The other day I worked my normal 12 hours, took a nap for 2 hours at work, then clocked back in for my on-call shift. I was SO exhausted. Here are some things I was thankful for:
-
I initially thought I was gonna have to sleep in the trauma room which would’ve been weird if anyone came in to get supplies or if we needed it for a bad trauma BUT I found a secluded room with a bed and a lock on the door.
-
had an extra pair of scrubs and a toothbrush in my locker. Didn’t feel so grubby after that.
-
had an extra pair of glasses in my locker which was a lifesaver since my contacts wet so dried out (thank you to past me who had the wherewithal to put them in there just in case)
-
got myself a cherry Coke Zero and bbq chips from a FULLY STOCKED vending machine and it gave me a little pep in my step
-
my husband and I tag-teamed getting the kids ready for school when I got home and then I had the whole day to lay around and be lazy and it was glorious
In general, I am also very thankful for my job even though it has been a horrible respiratory virus season so far. I really love being a nurse.
